About Me
Alexander J. Moseson, Ph.D. is a AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow at the US Agency for International Development (USAID). He is part of the Higher Education Solutions Network (HESN) team within the U.S. Global Development Lab, focusing on design & innovation and students. Prior to joining the HESN team, Alex worked to advance sustainable technology and entrepreneurship for development. An interdisciplinary engineer, he earned a joint B.S./M.S., then Ph.D., at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. While there, first inspired by service following Hurricane Katrina, his programs benefited Tanzania (low-cost lathe), India and the USA (affordable “green” cement), and Thailand (upland agriculture and water); the latter is supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He also co-created the Technology Seeding development framework and a course on sustainable engineering, and has been featured in national TV, radio, and print. Alex’s interests include leveraging academia for development, and connecting diverse development stakeholders. He derives professional value from his personal pursuits in the performing arts, videography, and photography.
