About This Innovation

Status Update

Michigan State University, in collaboration with the Mediae Company and their innovative "Shamba Shape Up" program, will develop educational short programming called "Simu Shape Up" to connect with smallholder farmers and women throughout Western Kenya to share the benefits of mobile programming for agriculture.

How it Works

In the past years, advances in mobile phone access and available new innovations have resulted in a suite of applications and mobile-phone supported programs to support smallholder farmers worldwide. If the pilot project succeeds, there will be a 30-40% growth in the number of men and women smallholder farmers using and benefitting from m-agriculture services in Kenya and observable behavioral changes in rural women’s ability to effectively use their mobile phones.
